Product engineers think beyond implementation. They consider what users need, how a feature fits into the larger experience, and how to learn from what gets shipped.
Even small features in portfolio projects can show this mindset. Empty states, validation messages, loading behavior, and documentation all communicate care and product judgment.
That is why I treat personal projects as real products. The more realistic the thinking behind them, the more useful they become in conversations with hiring teams.
